Nectar of Affection

As human beings, we move through life making mistakes, learning slowly through experience, discomfort, and growth.

Yet daughters and women are often expected to embody care, responsibility, and patience at all times. Because of these expectations, even small mistakes can become amplified and harshly judged.

While reflecting on this, I found myself thinking about the role of compassion within motherhood.

In Snehosudha, the daughter has stepped down from the mother’s lap and now stands independently before her. The mother gently places her hand upon the daughter’s head.

The gesture is simple, but emotionally layered.

There may be disagreements between mother and daughter. Differences in worldview, silence, frustration, or distance. Yet beneath all of that often remains an enduring tenderness, the familiar concern asking whether you have eaten, rested, or taken care of yourself.

The title Snehosudha translates roughly to “nectar of affection.” Through this artwork, I wanted to portray the mother not only as a caregiver but also as a compassionate presence who patiently guides the daughter through the difficult process of becoming human.

Like Ashray, this work also adopts a corner composition inspired by terracotta temple structures. The intimate framing reinforces that dependable corner of affection in a world that is full of expectations.

Within the progression of the series, this artwork marks a subtle transition toward independence while preserving emotional connection.
